Location Filter
The Location Filter allows you to focus on a specific location within your organization. When active, all lists and data are filtered to show only items, inspections, and other records from the selected location and its sub-locations.
Using the Location Filter
The Location Filter bar appears below the main navigation bar throughout the application.
Default State (All Locations)
When no location filter is active:
- The bar displays "All Locations" with a globe icon
- A Filter by location button is shown
- All data from all accessible locations is displayed
Filtering by Location
To filter by a specific location:
- Click the Filter by location button
- A location tree selector opens showing your organization's location hierarchy
- Select the desired location
- The bar updates to show the selected location with a breadcrumb path
When a Location is Selected
When a location filter is active:
- The bar displays the full location path (e.g., "Main Building > Floor 2 > Storage Room")
- The bar has a blue background to indicate filtering is active
- A Change button allows you to select a different location
- An X button clears the filter
Clearing the Filter
To return to viewing all locations:
- Click the X button on the right side of the location bar
- The filter clears and you return to seeing all data
How Filtering Works
When a location is selected:
| Data Type | Filtering Behavior |
|---|---|
| Items | Shows items at the selected location and all sub-locations |
| Inspections | Shows inspections for items at the selected location and sub-locations |
| Dashboard | Statistics and widgets reflect only the filtered location |
| Reports | Generated reports include only data from the filtered location |
When you select a parent location, all items and inspections from child locations are also included. For example, selecting "Main Building" will include data from all floors, rooms, and areas within that building.
Common Use Cases
Site Managers
Filter to your assigned site to focus on local equipment and inspections without seeing data from other sites.
Floor-by-Floor Inspections
Select a specific floor or area before starting inspections to see only the relevant items for that zone.
Location-Specific Reports
Apply a location filter before generating reports to create documentation specific to a department, building, or area.
Troubleshooting
When investigating issues at a particular location, filter to that area to quickly find related items and their inspection history.
Tips
- The location filter persists as you navigate between pages during your session
- The filter is cleared when you log out or close the browser
- Use the location breadcrumb to see the full hierarchy path of your current filter
- Child locations inherit from parent selections - you don't need to select each sub-location individually
Mobile Usage
On mobile devices:
- The location bar appears below the app bar
- Tap Filter by location to open the location selector
- The location tree is scrollable for organizations with many locations
- The breadcrumb truncates long paths with ellipsis (...)
